Strengthening Local Capacity to Protect Wildlife in Cambodia

Timeframe: 2022 - 2025
Country/Region: Cambodia
Partner: Wildlife Alliance

The illegal wildlife trade is one the biggest threats to wildlife globally. Cambodia is a source, transit country, and destination for many of the world’s most trafficked and valuable species. The main goal of this project is to strengthen local capacity to protect wildlife in Cambodia. Through this grant, Wildlife Alliance, a long-term partner of the Fondation Segré and an organization with a successful track record in this sector in Cambodia, will continue its successful operations in multiple provinces where illegal wildfire trade is rife.

The main objectives of the project are to strengthen community conservation efforts to protect wildlife and habitats at five different sites, to improve local wildlife law enforcement in seven provincial hotspots known for illegal trade and to increase understanding of wildlife and the need to protect threatened species in illegal trade hotspots.
