Timeframe: 2014-2015
Country/Region: Indonesia, Asia

The priority actions of the Cikananga programme are to:

  • Prevent extinction of species by establishing viable captive breeding populations of the Black-winged Starling, the Javan Green Magpie, the Sumatran laughingthrush and the Rufous fronted Laughingthrush and other Indonesian species under threat from trade
  • Improve, renovate and modify enclosures for captive breeding
  • Expand the breeding programmes to other facilities in Indonesia and Europe in due course
  • Provide a base for targeted public education and awareness programmes
  • Continue to develop and monitor local reintroduction projects (already begun with the critically endangered Black-winged starling)
